Special Exhibit at the Alte Pinakothek and Domenico Ghirlandaio

I recently had the great fortune to head to the Alte Pinakothek when in Germany with my husband for our honeymoon. I was delighted to see that there was a special exhibit running titled ‘Florence and its Painters: From Giotto to Leonardo Da Vinci’. While I was quite taken with some of the paintings in the show, I absolutely loved the drawings—specifically those of Domenico Ghirlandaio. Many of the drawings were of artists I rarely heard of as I probably unfortunately glossed over them at some point in my life.

There is such liveliness and extreme delicacy in the line quality of these pieces—it was an experience to see such sensitivity. I took some images of some of the drawings in the show—I know wish I had a little better quality images—but I hope these do give some insight into how extraordinary these works are.
